OverDrive’s Big Library Read

Decatur Public Library is taking part in the Big Library Read program.  Starting Tuesday, March 17th, DPL card holders will be able to borrow and read an eBook that will simultaneously be available to unlimited libraries and library patrons.  Normally, eBooks are still subject to “copies” being available, but for this event one title will be limitless, allowing participants to be a part of a virtual, global eBook club!

If you’re interested in the book, you will be able borrow Shakespeare Saved My Life using your valid Decatur Public  library card, and read on all major computers and devices, including iPhone®, iPad®, Nook®, Android™ phones and tablets, and Kindle® without worrying about wait lists or holds. You can select a lending period of one, two, or three weeks, which begins at the date of checkout.  Titles will automatically expire at the end of the lending period, and best of all, there are no late fees!

What’s the book title, you ask?  Shakespeare Saved My Life: Ten Years in Solitary with the Bard, an autobiographical eBook by Laura Bates, is a riveting true-life tale of Shakespeare professor and prison volunteer Laura Bates as she teaches about the playwright in supermax solitary confinement, developing a friendship with a brilliant, dangerous convict.

The Big Library Read program is made possible through a partnership between OverDrive, the leading supplier of eBooks and more to libraries, and Sourcebooks, publisher of Laura Bates’ autobiography. To borrow the eBook version of Shakespeare Saved My Life as part of Big Library Read, visit http://www.decatur.lib.al.us  and then click on the Big Library Read slider at the top of our page (you may have to scroll through to get to it) anytime between March 17th and March 31st.
