October Released Tasks

October at Decatur Public Library will be a very busy and cozy time. The 36th annual Quilt Show is going on so come down and vote for your favorite by the 23rd. Winners will be announced on the 24th and the quilts come down on the 30th. Also this month we will be hosting Hitchcocktober during free movie nights. We will show 2 classic Alfred Hitchcock movies on the 12th and the 26th of this month. The doors open at 6:15 pm; movies start at 6:30 pm. We also have the Adult Color Club meeting on the 17th from 4- 5:30 pm in the Community Room. We invite you to spend some time relaxing with us at DPL this month.

As the end of the challenge is close, we wanted to remind you of the requirements for each level of the Adult Reading Challenge this year:

The released tasks for this month are:

Read any book set in a Ghost Town or Haunted House. Jim Phillips will be in the library on the 30th telling antebellum ghost stories, so get in the mood ahead of time by reading a book set in a ghost town or haunted house.

The second task is to read any book about or set at the 1893 Chicago World’s Fair. The fair was held to celebrate the 400th anniversary of Christopher Columbus’s arrival in the new world and was open from May 1, 1893 to October 30, 1893. It was a massive event that covered over 600 acres and had a lasting impact on Chicago and the rest of the country. To see what it looked like follow this  link  from author Deeanne Gist’s website.
Happy Reading!
