Summer is almost upon us and we are gearing up for another fantastic summer reading program at Decatur Public Library. DPL's 2016 Summer Reading Program will be open to
young people, preschool through young adult, with programs, prize drawings,
storytimes, and more. This year, we will
explore all things sports and fitness this summer as Decatur Public Library presents “On
Your Mark, Get Set, Read.” Activities
will include movies, crafts, martial arts, animal fun and lots of reading!
The public library cares about children and
has planned programs to keep them reading and learning all summer. Whether parents
keep track of the amount of time their children spend reading or the number of
books they have read this summer, children who join the summer library program
keep their minds active and enter school in the fall ready to learn and ready
to succeed. We also make sure they have
a lot of fun while they’re learning!
Teens are also encouraged to participate in
“Get in the Game: READ!” Teens are invited to come to the library and read for
prizes, as well as to take part in special events offered throughout the
summer. Special events this summer will
include giant Jengaรข, YA Literature Jeopardy!®, life-size Angry Birds™, and Teen Advisory Group (TAG) meetings. Teens in junior high and
high school can attend these free events at DPL this summer. No library card is required to attend, so
visiting children and teens are welcome to join us!
Registration forms for Summer Reading can be
turned in any time in the month of June but we will also have a couple of
special opportunities to get started.
Ms. Mary and Ms. Anna will be at 3rd Friday on May 20th
so you can go ahead and sign up! We
will also have special Summer Reading Program Signup events on June 3rd
from 1pm – 4pm and June 4th from 9am – 11am.
Check
our website or stop in to our Youth
Services department for more information and a schedule of events. All programs are free of charge. We hope to see you this summer!
