Decatur Public Library is proud
to participate in WAFF Channel 48’s Can-a-thon for 2015 in conjunction with the
Volunteer Center of Morgan County. We will be gathering non-perishable food
items until December 3rd.
This canned food drive is crucial for the food pantries and feeding
programs in our county.
All of the food collected stays
in Morgan County. The agencies in Morgan
County that the food is distributed to are:
- Neighborhood Christian Center
- Committee on Church Cooperation
- Salvation Army
- Friendship House -Mental Health Association
- Lifehouse - Central Baptist Church
- Kidz Table - Somerville
- New Beginnings Food Pantry - Trinity
- Decatur Dream Center
- Carpenter’s Cabinet - Falkville
- Meals on Wheels
- The Caring Place - Hartselle
- Parents and Children Together (PACT)
- NARCOG
- The Mountain Methodist Food Bank - Lacey’s Spring
- Sharehouse - Lacey’s Spring, Morgan City, Union Hill
Items most needed:
- Canned meat or fish
- Canned vegetables
- Peanut butter
- Soups, chili or stew
- Paper products (towels & tissue)
- Dinner kits (Hamburger Helper, rice, noodles, etc.)
- Breakfast cereal
- Canned fruits
Items we CANNOT accept:
- Sorry we cannot accept home-canned items for food safety rules
- Cans that are deeply dented, bulging, leaking or rusty
- Bottles or jars that are leaking or have damaged seals
You may donate canned or non-perishable goods anytime during Library hours.
A Can-a-thon
box is by the Circulation Desk on the 6th Avenue side of the building.
