March is a great time to enjoy
the library. We always have programs for kids but this month we have two events
planned that will be fun for the entire family.
Kick off Spring Break by joining
us Friday night, March 24th for our Family Movie Extravaganza. We’ll
be showing an old classic with a flying car and have lots of fun crafts,
activities, a photo op, and great snacks. All for FREE! The movie starts at
5:30 pm.
To finish off the week of Spring
Break come enjoy Delano Park with us to celebrate Take a Walk in the Park Day. Thursday, March 30th from 10 am until 12 noon DPL will be in the park.
We will be setting up fun activities for the entire family centered around the
Riverwild children’s area. There will be story time, sidewalk chalk, bubbles, a
princess appearance, and a Story Walk with the book Red Sings from Treetops by Joyce Sidman. We hope you all can join us.
The park offers some really nice spots to sit
and read. If you are taking the Adult Reading Challenge this year, pick out
your books for the next two tasks and join us in the park.
In honor of Women’s History Month
the first task is to read any book that deals with women’s rights. Read a novel about a suffragette or read a
biography of some of the women who fought hard for women’s rights, and don’t
forget that not all women enjoy the freedom most of us in the United States
take for granted today.
The second task is to read a book
that would be classified as Eco-fiction.
By definition eco-fiction is “ecologically oriented fiction, which may be
nature-oriented (non-human oriented) or environment-oriented (human impacts on
nature). Source: Jim
Dwyer’s Where the Wild Books Are: A Field
Guide to Eco-Fiction (University
of Nevada Press, 2010). You can find more
information on the subject at http://eco-fiction.com/ .
There will be a suggested reading
list for each of these tasks in the notebook outside our office.
Happy Reading!

** This is a very tentative schedule. We will be doing library
tours for all 5th graders during part of the month and the schedule
will change as needed to accommodate that. If you are making a trip to the
Library to get stamps, call or email us to confirm ahead of time that we will
be available.
